Iraqi soldiers carry their weapons during a mission against Islamic State in Iraq
Nineveh (Iraqinews.com) – Six Islamic State militants were killed in an airstrike by the U.S-led inteational coalition warplanes on Mosul city, a security source was quote as saying Sunday.
Speaking to Baghdad Today news website, the source said, “The U.S.-led inteational coalition carried out an airstrike in coordination with the Nineveh Operations Command, targeting Islamic State remnants in Badush village in northweste Mosul.”
“The air raid left six Islamic State militants dead and one of their tunnels completely destroyed,” the source pointed out.
On July 10, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced liberation of the second largest Iraqi city of Mosul from IS militants, who had captured it in 2014. More than 25,000 militants were killed throughout the campaign, which started in October 2016.
Since the city was declared free, security troops continue to comb weste Mosul areas for hidden IS cells. Despite the victory over IS in the city, observers say Islamic State is believed to constitute a security threat even after the group’s defeat at its main havens across Iraqi provinces.

Iraqi troops arrest a man and take him to a lock-up for interrogation
Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Security troops have arrested an Islamic State members, along with one of his relatives in Mosul, the local affairs department in Nineveh said on Sunday.
“Troops managed to arrest an Islamic State leader, along with one of his relatives who is an army conscript, while he was at the nationality department in Nineveh,” the statement added.
“The leader was recognized by the intelligence sources of the department,” it said, adding that the militant used to work at the group’s Hisbah ( vigilantism) department.
His relative, according to the statement, knew about his involvement with IS and that he facilitated smuggling him to Baghdad after liberation of Nineveh.
The two suspects were extradited to authorities in question so legal measures would be taken.
Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced, in December, full liberation of Iraqi lands, declaring end of war against IS members.

Explosion in Iraq
Diyala (Iraqinews.com) – Four people, including a well-placed municipal official, were killed and wounded Monday in two bomb attacks in Iraq’s Diyala province, security sources were quoted as saying.
Speaking to Alghad Press news website, a source said, “Three bombs planted by unknown men went off outside a house of a member of al-Abbara city council in northeaste Baqubah, leaving the municipal official and his uncle wounded.”
The two were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and security forces opened a probe into the bomb attack.
In another incident, a source said an explosive charge exploded in al-Azim area in northe Diyala, leaving a man killed and his wife injured.
In January 2015, Iraqi forces announced liberation of Diyala province from Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.
The province has seen months of fighting between Iraqi troops and IS militants especially in the Jalawla and Saadiyah areas in the province’s north and areas near the town of Muqdadiyah.

Security men stand near a site of a car bomb blast in Baghdad
Kirkuk (Iraqinews.com) – Two security men were seriously wounded in a bomb attack that targeted their police vehicle in one of Kirkuk villages on Saturday night, a security source was quoted as saying.
Speaking to Shafaq News website, the source said, “A bomb exploded on Saturday night while a police vehicle was passing by Tal Khadija village in Kirkuk’s al-Rashad district, leaving two policemen seriously wounded.”
“The two security men were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment,” the source pointed out.
Iraqi forces took over Kirkuk in mid October in response to a referendum Kurdistan Region held in September for independence from Iraq. Kirkuk is one of the areas where Baghdad and Erbil dispute sovereignty.
Last week, six Islamic State militants were killed in a security campaign in Hawija city, west of Kirkuk. The city was recaptured from Islamic State last year.
In December, Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced full liberation of Iraqi lands, declaring end of war against IS members.

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) currency auction on February 11 registered $194,322,309 in sales, a -2.87% volume decline from the US $200,067,351 sold by Iraqi Dinar, credit and transfer at the previous auction held on February 8.
The latest auction was attended by 45 banks and 9 remittance companies. The same institutions attended the auction held on February 11 compared to the previous auction.
Data for the February 11 auction was made public by CBI Announcement Number 3632.
Dollar sales in the in the period January 1, 2018 to February 11, 2018 saw an increase of -1% compared to the sales of US $4.35 billion in the same period in 2017. The total amount of US currency sold by CBI in the calendar year 2017 was US $15.7 billion.
An analysis of the monthly dollar sales by CBI since January 2016 reveals highly fluctuating volumes. During the period from January 2016 to February 2018, sales of US dollars averaged US $1.79 billion per month. Peak volumes were reached in May this year when sales touched US $2.3 billion.
